The duo began dating before Sarah got into acting. When Sarah and Peter worked together at a camp as camp counselors, Peter wooed Sarah with hand-written letters for eight months.

Eight months later, they had their first date where Peter proposed in a swoon-worthy way. The duo was supposed to see the play named Wit, which is about a professor of the poetry of John Donne.
Since a week before the proposal, Peter gave a poem and a gift each day but on the final day, Sarah almost botched their big day. She was supposed to get a poem by John Donne and then the ring but when she patted Peter, she felt the ring box beforehand.
Now the couple has been married for almost 18 years and is proud parents to two children.
Sarah gave birth to her first child ten years after getting married. Sarah and her husband welcomed son, Micah Emmanuel Lanfer, on 18 January 2012.

In 2014, the duo was blessed with their second child- a daughter named Hannah Mali Rose Lanfer. Hannah was born on Wednesday, 3rd December. Sarah opened about her second pregnancy earlier that year in July.

In the year 1997, Sarah provided her voice in Daria. She also worked as a voice actor in Is It Fall Yet? and Is It College Yet? in the year 2000 and 2002 respectively. Her first appearance in a film was in 2003 with Radio.
